July 21 declared as Tim Duncan Day by San Antonio Mayor

Mayor Ivy Taylor declared July 21 as “Tim Duncan Day” on Monday.

Tim Duncan, after a 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs, announced his retirement from the Association.
Ivy Taylor said, after 19 seasons, five NBA championships and two league MVP awards, declaring a “Tim Duncan Day” will be another way to celebrate the great athlete.

“Tim may not be comfortable with all the attention, but I do think he deserves it. Besides being one of the greatest players of all time, he’s also an outstanding role model. He taught us how to work hard, win and remain humble. He truly fits the definition of champion, and what better way to honor our most decorated champion than by declaring July 21 as Tim Duncan Day? It will allow fans everywhere to show him just how much he means to us, to our City and to the sports world.”

The mayor said in a press release that, across the front steps of City Hall, a banner will be hanged to show appreciation for such a magnificent player. She has also asked the fans and San Antonio citizens to wear No. 21 Spurs jersey on Thursday.
